Over the past week our slalom team was racing during the first PWA slalom event of this year in Marignane, France. The wind didn’t really play along, which is why many races had to be cancelled and the riders were out waiting for a long time for the final heats of the first elimination.

In the women’s elimination Sarah Jackson, Ayako Suzuki and Nimet Tulumen were fighting for their spot in the winner’s final, but unfortunately only Nimet made it and got the chance to fight for the event win. In shifting and gusty winds, she couldn’t find the speed from the races before and finished the event on a great 8th place. Ayako just missed the Top-10 and ended up on the 11th spot after going over the finish line in third position in heat 7.

Also the men’s fleet was struggling with the difficult conditions, but our team had a good start into the event. Nicolas Goyard, Ethan Westera and Malte Reuscher made it to the semi-finals and Malte got the chance to race for the event win. The wind picked up for the final and Malte unfortunately went over the starting line too early, trying to secure himself a great position at the first gybe mark. With Malte finishing 8th as well as Ethan and Nicolas just missing the winner’s final and ending up in 11th (Ethan) and 14th (Nicolas) place, our riders finished with a good team result.

We’re already looking forward to the next PWA racing event in Japan from May 10th to 15th and hope the wind will play along for our team.
